The Bellagio Resident Fellows program offers a serene setting conducive to focused, goal-oriented work, and the unparalleled opportunity to establish new connections with fellow residents from a stimulating array of disciplines and geographies. The combination of uninterrupted, individual time during the day and evenings spent with innovative leaders, writers, and artists from a wide array of fields advances fellows’ current projects and stimulates creative approaches to future work. This community generates new knowledge to solve some of the most complex issues facing our world and creates art that inspires reflection, understanding, and imagination.


Applying for an Academic Writing Residency

Researchers in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and other academic disciplines

The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center's mission is to promote innovation and identify impact-oriented solutions to critical global problems. The Academic Writing application process is for university and think tank-based academics, researchers, professors, and scientists working in any discipline. We bring together a broad mix of disciplines to the Bellagio Community, including the arts, literature, social and natural sciences (along with practitioners and artists). The Center has a strong interest in proposals that align with the Foundation's work to expand opportunities and to strengthen resilience for poor or vulnerable people, in particular projects relevant to the Foundation's core issue areas: Advance Health, Revalue Ecosystems, Secure Livelihoods, and Transform Cities. The Center typically offers two to four-week long residencies to no more than 15 residents at a time. Individuals based at a university or a think thank in any discipline and from any part of the world are welcome to apply. To ensure an intellectually diverse and stimulating environment, the program welcomes projects from all academic disciplines.

Applying for an Arts & Literary Arts Residency

Artists, composers, fiction and non-fiction writers

The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center's mission is to promote innovation and identify impact-oriented solutions to critical global problems. The Bellagio Arts & Literary Arts application process is for composers, fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, poets, video/filmmakers, and visual artists who share in the Foundation's mission of promoting the well-being of humankind and whose work is inspired by or relates to global or social issues. The residency is for artists seeking time for disciplined work, reflection, and collegial engagement with a diverse community of academics, practitioners, and artists. The Center typically offers stays of two to four weeks long, in a community of 15 fellows that typically includes 3-5 arts resident fellows. Artists of significant achievement from any country are welcome to apply.

The Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Center's mission is to promote innovation and identify impact-oriented solutions to critical global problems.The Center offers residencies to professionals in fields and institutions relevant to the Rockefeller Foundation’s work and its current issue areas of Advance Health, Revalue Ecosystems, Secure Livelihoods, and Transform Cities. We seek practitioner applicants with demonstrated leadership qualities and the capacity to contribute to the intellectual life at the Center.
